Chaser, seeing those boots reminded me of my dad. Apparently they used to stick ketchup packets in each others boots so when they had to go to a fire they'd step on them and wouldn't have time to clean it up. Maybe you need to sneak back for a visit one last time, with some condiments. [img]wink.gif[/img]

Man, I understand how you feel. It's tough doing a job, no, just like the military and the priesthood, it's more of a calling than a job. As I was saying, it's tough doing a "job" for many years and then suddenly stopping. It was like that for me after I retired from active duty in the USMC. I spent 23 years doing that, I think you spent 17 as a Firefighter/Paramedic.
I'm glad they let you keep your gear. I kept my uniforms (since we have to pay for them anyway). My combat gear had to be turned in.
It's sad. I still have trouble adjusting to "the real world". It will get a little easier with time, but you will always miss it. Take care buddy.

maybe hold on to the stuff, and in 10 years you'll look at it and be glad you saved it.
